18 June 2014 - 18:03 - Psalm 1: Worthy of Delight

The proper study of Gods elect is God; the proper study of a Christian is the Godhead. The highest science, the loftiest speculation, the mightiest philosophy, which can every engage the attention of a child of God, is the name, the nature, the person, the work, the doings, and the existence of the Great God whom he calls Father. -Charles Spurgeon (emphasis mine)

This excellent quote is a reminder of why I'm looking at the Psalms in order to learn about God.

In my last entry I began looking at Psalm 1 to see what it reveals about God. I noticed specifically how it reveals God to be a God who gives us nourishing instructions. Notice also that these instructions are worthy of delight and meditation day and night (v. 2). Has anyone ever delighted in the instructions to build something, or spent both night and day meditating on them? Gods instructions alone are worthy of such delight and meditation. What does this tell us about Gods awesomeness!? He is indeed an awesome God who gives instruction that are worthy of delight. Let's praise Him and delight in Him more for being such a God who gives delightful instructions!

Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked,
nor stands in the way of sinners,
nor sits in the seat of scoffers;
but his delight is in the law/instruction of Yahweh,
and on his law/instruction he meditates day and night.
He is like a tree planted by streams of water
that yields its fruit in its season,
and its leaf does not wither.
In all that he does, he prospers.
The wicked are not so, but are like chaff that the wind drives away.
Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment,
nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous;
for Yahweh knows the way of the righteous,
but the way of the wicked will perish. (Psalms 1:16)
